THE METER TEST

This test should be conducted over an hour period during which time no water is to be used on the property.

  1. Write down the numbers indicated on the water meter at the start of this test.
  2. Return to check the meter reading after 1 hour has passed.
  3. If the numbers have not changed you do not have a leak in your pressurized water service.
  4. If the numbers have changed this indicates there is water consumption even when water is not being used and you may have a leak and should have your service tested by a technician.

LEAK DETECTION TIPS

If your water meter reading changes when you are not using any water, you are more than likely to have a leak (mark the indicator on your water meter and do not use any water for 1 hour. Then check the meter if the indicator has moved; if so - you may have a leak).
